Research Interests
Observation and manipulation of the synchronous attractor states of nonlinear chemical oscillators, specifically the photo-inhibited Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. We are attempting to understand the available attractor states of weakly coupled nonlinear chemical oscillators in a 2D emulsion environment with the aim of specifying and controlling the current attractor state of the system using external optical stimulation. This will enable us to study other oscillatory chemical networks found in nature such as the locomotion of gastropods and the signaling dynamics of networks of neurons.
